Cognitive Factors Affecting Subjective Probability Assessment

چکیده

Prior probabilities are central to Bayesian statistics. The Bayesian paradigm assumes that people can express uncertainty in terms of subjective probability distributions. This article will consider Hogarth's 1975 assessment that \man is a selective, sequential information processing system with limited capacity,. .. ill-suited for assessing probability distributions." Particular attention will be paid to when people make nor-matively \good" or \poor" probability assessments, what techniques are eeective in eliciting \good," coherent probability assessments, and on how these ideas are relevant to the practicing Bayesian statistician. While there are situations where experts can make well-calibrated judgments, it will be argued that more research needs to be done into the eeects of expertise, training, and feedback.

Recognizing Significant Human-Related Factors Affecting System Reliability

System reliability can be affected by many factors, some of which are not machine-related. An important category of these non-traditional factors are human-related (HR) factors, such as expertise, collaboration, and motivation. Operational systems consist of machinery as well as human operators and decision makers. Therefore, a risk analysis is incomplete if the probability of human error is no...

Cognitive impairment in adult ADHD--perspective matters!

OBJECTIVE The assessment of cognitive functions of adults with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) comprises self-ratings of cognitive functioning (subjective assessment) as well as psychometric testing (objective neuropsychological assessment). The aim of the present study was to explore the utility of these assessment strategies in predicting neuropsychological impairments of adul...

Subjective Cognitive Complaints in Schizophrenia: Relation to Antipsychotic Medication Dose, Actual Cognitive Performance, Insight and Symptoms

BACKGROUND Subjective cognitive complaints are prevalent in those affected by functional psychoses and a variety of possible associated factors have been investigated. However, few studies have examined these potential factors within single studies or analyses. METHODS Patients with a history of a schizophrenia spectrum disorder (n = 115) and a non-clinical comparison group (n = 45) completed...

Cognitive Load on Web Search Tasks

Assessing cognitive load on web search is useful in examining which search system features, search tasks types and phases are more cognitively difficult for the searchers. It is also helpful in examining how individual differences among searchers (e.g. cognitive abilities) affect the search process. This investigation examined cognitive load from the perspective of primary and secondary task pe...
